Jeep Show in Orlando Feb 10
The Lynx Bus Service in Orlando will be having a grand opening/open house to show off their new facilities at the corner of John Young Parkway and Princeton Street in Orlando. As part of this event, Lynx will be presenting their annual Bus Rodeo (a driving competition for the fleet's drivers to find out who is the best and move on to a higher level of competition) and a JEEP SHOW. Entry is free for spectators and participants. Tow rig and trailer parking is plentiful and all parking is on concrete. The Jeep Show is open to all models of jeeps, civilian and military, and will feature prizes and trophies. This is a chance for Florida's jeep clubs to come together for a social day of renewing old friendships, free food, and fun competitions. The highlight of the day will be the awarding of the Club Participation Challenge trophy. The formula for winning this is deceptively simple. Multiply the number of jeeps from your club by the number of miles your club traveled times the number of jeep models in your crew. If your club traveled seventy miles with two TJs, an YJ, a JK, a XJ, and a XK, your club's score would be 6 (jeeps)x70 (miles)x5 (models) or 2100 points. This formula should make the playing field a little more even for small clubs and/or clubs who travel a long distance to attend. We want to reward the club who works the hardest to get to this show! 2500 LYNX Lane Orlando Fl 32804 Jeeps should arrive between 8am & 9am Show starts at 9:45 am on 10 February 2008

Sounds like fun but whats the relation to a Lynx Bus and a Jeep? Can we drive over the busses since there are no rocks in Florida  Sounds like a great event to bring people together!

We have CJ, TJ, JK, KJ, Patriot, YJ x about 30 miles x about 13 participates could be a lot of points to score. That's an interesting way to score groups. I like it.

Sounds fun, cannot wait to check it out.

We'd love to have you. The thought was that nobody would ever expect to win the club participation trophy as long as a show was held in Orlando since, as you all know, the Orlando Jeep Club could easily bring more jeeps. But EVERY show has "total jeeps" as the criteria for winning a participation trophy. So we wracked our brains (all sixteen of us!) and came up with something that should be more interesting and hopefully more fun. If we make a good showing and meet the expectations of the nice people at Lynx (who have purchased the trophies, the food, the entertainment, the DJ, and the prizes), then next year, we want to make it even more interesting. That is if there is a next year show. That's why we need to do a good first show. For next year, if there is a show, we'll have more time to plan. One thing we've talked about is expanding the club competition to see who can earn the most money for the Lynx United Way charity AT THE SHOW. Every club could do a competition. For example... Orlando JC has a balance beam. They charge people one dollar per jeep to try it out. At the end, they've earned forty dollars. Ocala JC brings their RTI ramp. They charge a dollar per jeep and announce some winners and donate fifty dollars to United Way. The Treasure Coast club brings a highlift jack and some raffle tickets and sells them for a buck each. They announce a winner of the jack and donate sixty bucks. The Caloosa Jeepers of Southwest Florida arrive with intricate trivia con-*test*-('") ballots that cost one dollar each. At the end, a winner (who was the only one able to correctly identify the Jeep M679) is announced and seventy bucks is added to the United Way's fund. Mid Florida JC brings a pile of rocks and some Remote Control rock crawlers. All the kids want to play on the course that is laid out with little cones and judges with stopwatches just like a real course. When the dust clears, they announce a winner of their competition and donate one hundred and seventy five dollars. The club with the highest donation would get the highest multiplier to use in their calculation. In the example above, the MFJC won this event out of five clubs, so they would get to multiply their other score by FIVE! Plus everyone would leave saying "Wow, what an odd jeep show." See you on the 10th.

Sounds like fun but whats the relation to a Lynx Bus and a Jeep? Can we drive over the busses since there are no rocks in Florida  Not much relation between the two other than you don't want to stand in front of one when it's climbing a hill and you don't want to stand in front of the other when it's running a timed course in the rodeo. Lynx Bus Service is having their competition to decide who is their best driver. About twenty drivers will run a bus one at a time through a timed course and try to miss cones (and spectators!) The best driver moves on to a higher level of competition against drivers from other fleets. Since, Lynx feels that the rodeo is only interesting to the family members of whoever is driving the route at that particular moment, they wanted to do some kind of car show. Since The Orlando Jeep Club used to do this show and it was so well received by the people who came to the Rodeo, they wanted jeeps again. They tried one year with Mini Coopers but twenty of those lined up only differed in their paint schemes whereas there's probably not a single jeep in the world that doesn't have an obvious modification done to it within twenty minutes of leaving the dealership. The Lynx folks claim that their people always wanted the jeeps back. The new facility at the corner of John Young Parkway and Princeton Avenue has all kinds of space for a show and their rodeo. With their grand opening and an open house going on for the huge new facility, it was only natural to invite the mayor, the county commissioners, and the community to a big party to welcome everyone to the new HQ. A jeep show will be a nice distraction for anyone not interested in the DJ, the building, or large Gillig buses painted odd colors driving through an obstacle course. Rather than get crazy asking every off road manufacturer for prizes (which really is an all year job), a show had to be thrown together quickly and on the budget that Lynx provided. They have purchased a first and second place award for Participant's Choice, Spectator's Choice, and the aforementioned Club Participation Challenge. With more time to plan for next year's event, if there is a next year's event, we can be even more creative with the Club Participation thing and possibly get more clubs to come en masse so that it is really fun. Thanks for your interest, MFJC!

We do pretty good for club precipitation at events. Mid FL had the most members at the 07 Orlando show & shine as well as the 07 Jeeptoberfest. Heck OJC only had one more jeep than us in the Debary Christmas parade, but they did put a better show on for the judges and placed.

IGNRNT- 02-07-2008

That's good to hear. This one is more than just total number of jeeps since if two large clubs like Orlando and Mid Florida are attending, why would any of the other forty seven clubs in Florida think that they have a chance? Your chances are still pretty good though.

JeepGal9000- 02-10-2008

Had a great time! Thanks for the invite. We met a lot of nice folks from Orlando Jeep Chat.

We were happy to have you. I had a great time. The show went great! The Club Participation Challenge was won by the Orlando Jeep Club who supported our first show with 16 jeeps and five models. The Peace River Club technically came in second, but since both of the club's entrants were mine, I disqualified myself and second place went to the Lakeland Jeep Club with the Ocala Jeep Club coming in third. A nicely restored M715 won the Participant's Choice trophy. The food was awesome and it was a beautiful day to hang with friends.
