Trail Ride Announcement for Saturday June 21st & BONUS!
Trail Ride Announcement for Saturday June 21st & bonus ride on Sunday June 22nd All stock Jeeps are welcome and encouraged to attend. (Front/Rear tow points recommended ~ just in case) Date/Time/Location: Saturday the 21st is for volunteers who want to make a difference for their sport and help keep the Ocala National Forest open. We will meet me in Barberville at 8:15am Saturday morning and head for the event at 8:45am. Barberville is 12 miles North of DeLand on US17 where it crosses SR40. There is an empty lot on one corner we can join up before heading to the meeting spot. I have planed out a short trail tide to the meeting point so the day will start out fun and get better as we go. This could be long day so I recommend you have a full tank of gas, water/snacks for everyone on board and your standard trail ride gear. Additional items that could help: GPS, Post hole diggers, shovels & trash bags. I have seen post indicating there will be a BBQ meal served at one of the campgrounds for all the volunteers in the early evening. I think there may be a huge turn out for this even. So if we finish early so I plan to head over to HardRock and join up with the Wilson’s crew. I would love to spend Saturday morning at HardRock, but since the ONF is being closed down I figured our clubs time and energy would be better spent keeping part of the forest open for us to use. See these sites for additional details. Sunday the 22nd is “Wheelers for the Wounded Trail Ride”, a charity event at HardRock. I think both events this weekend are going to have a huge turnout. Looks like most people (like me & Trail Ride TV :D ) will be attending both events. The best part is admission to HardRock is only $15 dollars on Sunday. See this forum for details. http://wheelersforthewounded.org/forum/index.php/topic,298.0.html Hardrock MX Park is located at the north end of Ocala on C-25A (NW Gainesville RD), 3/4 mile south from SR326 (Exit 358 from I-75). Or you can google map this address. 6849 NW Gainesville Rd, Ocala, FL

Wow, lots of forun threads are talking about this event. I think that response on page 4 of this thread is related to a question I asked a few dats ago. http://www.floridajeepers.net/viewtopic.php?t=36929&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

This was a great event. About 45+ vehicles showed and helped out. There was one Hummer, three or four Toyotas and lots of Jeeps from every club within 200 miles. I was on the first group and helped sign the section of this trail starting at SR 40 and heading south. Here is a group photo of the first trail head sign we planted right on the corner of Pipeline (FR-590) and State Road 40. Our group planted about 10 signs in all to help mark the southern half of this new trail system. You can see a map of this new trail system and a few other photos of the event in my photo bucket. Everyone in our group finished about 1:30 so we went wheeling for a few more hours to round out the day and grabbed a bite to eat on the way home. Looking forward to the marking the north half of this route in the future. The officials on hand also talked about the need for local clubs and volunteers to create and maintain obstacles in the future. http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j143/Arts04TanRubi/ONFsignJune2008/?start=all Special thanks to the lady in the pink shirt from Tread Lightly and there “Restoration for Recreation” project that Hummer funded to make this event happen. She also provided sandwiches, chips and drinks for all the volunteers :D. Jason, (standing in the back of the forest service truck) for helping to coordinate this event and for being a big part of the Florida - Four Wheel Drive Association, helping to keep the forest open for all of us. And don’t forget “Tuna” and the other forest rangers that provide the directions and signs ;D.
